The Caledonian Society Highland Games took place at the Caledonian Ground on Sunday 30 November 2008

The results of the Track and Field Meeting held on Saturday 22 November, which included the Otago 3000m Championships are now available. Glen Ferguson was in scintillating form in winning the Men's 35+ 3000m Champs in 9min 11.84sec while Sue Cuthbert dominated the Master Women's grade.

The weekly Track and Field Meeting held on Saturday 15 November was a B Programme Meeting. It also included the Otago Combined Events Championships, which continued on the Sunday. There were some good performances from Leith athletes at this meeting held at the Caledonian on Saturday with ideal conditions of sunny skies and a light tailwind.

The weekly track and field meeting took place on Saturday afternoon 8 November 1pm to 4pm at the Caledonian Stadium. In mostly ideal sunny conditions with a moderate headwind (North Easterly). The weekly track and field meeting took place on Saturday afternoon 1 November 1pm to 4pm at the Caledonian Stadium. In tough gale conditions (strong South Westerlies) Kirsty Morris won both the Women's 3000m and 800m races finishing second on time in the Women's 20-34 grade 3000m events. John Winsbury won the 3000m race and finished 4th in the Men's 800m race. Andew Lonie was the fastest MM35 athlete over 3000m on the day, finishing as first MM35 in the men's 3000m race. The Hurring Relays took place on Wednesday evening 29 October from 6pm to 8pm at the Caledonian Stadium. Leith had athletes competing in the 4 x 800m and the 3000m events for teams points. Leith ended on 16 points with 8 from the 800m relays and 8 from the teams 3000m race.

Track and Field (all clubs) Report for Saturday 18 October at the Caledonian
There was a great turnout of athletes for the track and field programme today at the Caledonian. The weather was changeable, with strong blustery South West winds and intermittend showers, but overall the weather held up. Some great photos of this event will be available this evening or early tomorrow morning (Sunday, 19 October).

Some highlights:

3000m Races
Caversham's Tony Payne (9:04.49 First M19) won the 3000m narrowly from Leith's John Winsbury (9:05.16 First SM)) with Ariki's James List (9:07.05 second SM) third. Paula Whiting (9:55.47 first SW) of Hill City won the Women's grade run with the Men, and Erin Whitla of University of Otago (10:33.37 second SW) first in the Women's race, and Rebeka Greene of Hill City (10:36.39 first W19) second in the Women's race. Anna-Lisa Uttley of Ariki (10:38.77 second W19) was not far behind in third place.

800m Races
There was a great tussle between Ariki's Chris Weddell and Callan Moody for supremacy in the 800m. Callan Moody finished in 2:02.64 with Chris Weddell just a split second behind in 2:02.98

200m
Daniel O'Shea M19 Hill City (22.75 wind 0.8), Todd Mansfield SM Athletics Taieri (22.06 wind 0.8 and Andrew Moore SM Hill City (22.50 wind 0.8) all posted sub 23 seconds in the 200m.

Field
In the field, Arthur Green of Athletics Taieri threw a very good 51.59m in the Javelin event.

Richard Hendry won the Otago Masters Men's 5000m Track Championship at the Track and Field Meeting held on Saturday 15 December 2007 at the Caledonian.

Andrew Lonie achieved a PB while winning the 5000m, dipping under 16 minutes for the first time at the T & F Meeting held at the Caledonian on Saturday 8 December 2007

Andrew Lonie finished second in the 5000m race held at the Caledonian today (24 Nov 07). He narrowly missed breaking the 16min barrier, but achieved a PB of 16 min 4.05 sec. Kirsty Morris won the Women's 1500m race.

The Otago 10,000m Champs were held on Saturday 17 November at the Caledonian (3.20pm) as part of the Programme B programme. Neale McLanachan finished third overall and second Senior Man, while Kirsty Morris was the second Senior Women. Glen Ferguson broke the Master Men's 40-45 3000m record.

TWILIGHT HANDICAP MEETING (Fri 9 Nov07)

Bill Kenny won the 800m Handicap Race, getting out to a 350m lead on the next runner and holding out the second placed runner by just 4 metres. This was a great achievement for a man who has achieved so much in his long and varied athletic career.
